RIP PDX2000 - Hello PMC-580 PRO
Thanks Skratchworx !
Now the red mist of my missed flight has cleared, it’s time to bring some more Messe information. Having already shown you the next generation of Vestax gear, I just wanted to clarify the future of the PDX range and show you some images of yet another product showing that Vestax are back on track.
Firstly, the PDX. Having been around for some time now in various guises, it seems the end is nigh for the first real contender to the throne of the 1200. The PDX2000 and 2300 will be no more, being replaced by the new PDX3000 and 3000MIX. Vestax will continue to make 2000s and 2300 while components last and the Dynamic Balance tonearm will possibly only be available as a special order. Got to get me a pair of 2300 Pro but with straight arm before they’re no more.
This is a great move by Vestax as they now have a totally rationalised range with features that aren’t found on any other deck. In these times of rapidly dwindling turntable sales (yes even Technics aren’t shifting numbers), this could be the time when Vestax are able to topple the 1200 from it’s reign.
Shipments start April/May. Price TBC.
And now that 4 channel mixer. Vestax have been watching the scene develop and along with many other manufacturers, have entered the 4 channel with effects market big time. Addressing the lower end with the PMC280 (review on it’s way), the new PMC-580Pro ventures into big boy territory with a seriously specc’d monster chokka with bells, whistles and goodies. We’re talking 6 effects per channel plus master effects, full wet/dry per channel plus balance, 2 types of EQ, beat matching effects and USB audio input as standard. And the faders have full curves as well and MIDI is an optional extra. Taking a look at the fader area, I spy 4 screws holding down the fader area. Would this perhaps mean a rotary kit could be available at some point as well?
Now it strikes me that with just a few extra steps and the 580 could wear a “Traktor Scratch Certified” badge. Just a thought Mr Vestax Sir in this highly competitive 4 channel market.
In terms of pricing nothing is cast in stone, but expect it to be in DJM-800 territory so not too cheap but packing a punch nonetheless with an ETA of June/July.
