RPM 2 Multiprocessor

The RPM 2 is a 100% drag and drop configurable DSP-based device, set up and controlled using Rane's Drag Net software. Industry standard 10Base-T Ethernet is used to communicate between Drag Net devices and any Ethernet-equipped PC running Microsoft Windows.

The RPM 2 provides two balanced, line-level analog inputs and two balanced analog outputs, each I/O having its own 100% user-defined signal processing path.

Cost-effective end user control is possible using optional Rane accessories in conjunction with the Versatile Input Port. Whether your application requires contact closure Preset recall or remote level control using a potentiometer on a wall, the RPM 2 keeps the user interface easy and inexpensive.

Euroblock connectors are provided for audio and logic I/O. Grounding screws for direct connection to the metal chassis are provided for solving EMI problems due to shield wiring. Also found on the rear panel is an RJ-45 Ethernet connector for computer control, and an IEC AC power input.

This ain't no Internet appliance! For example, the RPM 2's 215 MIPs translate into 150 fully parametric EQ filters, should you need multiple channels of 15 band parametrics and nothing else.

Multiple units are controlled from a single computer using low-cost Ethernet switches. The recessed Default button on the rear panel recalls Preset 1 in case of communications failure. The front panel has three-color LED meters for each input and output, allowing fast and intuitive signal flow verification without a computer. Control Port, Power, Ethernet and Status indicators are also on the front panel. Powered from an internal power supply and certified as UL, CSA and CE complient, the RPM 2 is compatible with any installation mandating agency compliance.

Drag Net

Drag Net is a Windows-based software application used to configure, control and monitor the RPM Series Programmable Multiprocessors and their remote controls. Drag Net features an intuitive drag-and-drop style user interface, with standard 10Base-T Ethernet connectivity for PC to RPM communication.

What Can the RPM 2 Do?

Simply put, the RPM 2 has a ton of DSP horsepower. Combine this power with the flexibility of 100% drag and drop system design and the RPM 2 fits the bill for a variety of applications, simple or complex. Such as:

A two-channel digital delay. Five seconds of total delay is available in the RPM 2. Store and recall different delay settings using the RPM's 24 presets.

A 2-channel Graphic Equalizer using Rane's Perfect-Q technology. Think of it as a DEQ 60 Graphic Equalizer without the sliders, or as a replacement for the discontinued RPE 228d. Store and recall different EQ curves using presets.

Or how about a small restaurant or office system with two zones requiring volume control and source selection? Need Automatic Gain Control (AGC) on each input to keep levels under control? Yep, got that covered too.

One last example and then you're on your own: add a paging mic and Rane MS 1S Microphone Preamp to the system (the RPM 2's inputs are line-level only) and now you have a simple two-zone music/paging system. A sleeker solution is the RPM 2m which has mic/line inputs, eliminating the need for the MS 1S.

Remote Controls

Depending on which remote is selected for the application, the end user is presented easy access to a variety of functions such as preset recall and level adjustment. These are all easily mapped in Drag Net. All remotes mount in a standard U.S. electrical box with a minimum depth of 2-1/4 inches, and covered with a standard Decora® plate cover.

Using any of the RPM series Versatile Input Port (VIP) voltage-controlled level inputs, the VR 2 provides a simple “pot-on-a-wall” solution, and the LRS 4 and MRS 4 provide 4-way radio button “switch-on-a-wall” solutions. Only three wires are required for connection.
